Blount County No Longer Providing Animal Control

Blount County Commission of East Tennessee has elected to no longer provide Animal Control for the citizens of its county. Stray animals found within the county limits will no longer be serviced by Animal Control. Stray animals found within specified city limits (Maryville, Alcoa, and Rockford) will continue to receive Animal Control services.

There are several things the public can do to help:
First, if you find a stray animal, you need to place an ad in the local newspaper to run for three days in order for the potential owner to come forward and claim the animal if it is missing and has a home. 
Second, you can pass the animal’s information (breed, sex, marking, etc.) on to your local veterinary offices in the hopes that they may know if the animal belongs to someone. 
Third, take the animal to a local veterinary office or shelter and have it scanned for a microchip (this will also help located the owner if there is one).

A local organization, Animal Rescue and Fostering Networks (ARFNets) is working with other community organizations to get the word out and help mediate the situation.
